Future owners > First-time home buyers’ tax credit
The tax credit for first-time home buyers is doubled in 2022, both federally and in Quebec.
An individual may claim the credit if neither they nor their spouse have owned another home in the 4 years preceding the acquisition of the property.
The credit is non-refundable and may be shared between both spouses.
The 4-year requirement does not apply in the case of a person with a disability, provided that the new home is better suited to their needs.
